Jane is a mum living with her disabled 24-year-old daughter, struggling on a very low income to make ends meet. A prepayment meter had been fitted while she was out of the house and she came to our adviser in tears of desperation because after many calls about the unpaid bills and incorrect charges, she found she was getting nowhere with the energy company.

Our adviser was able to give Jane information on possible payment plans and available energy grants and successfully applied for a fuel voucher on Jane’s behalf. Jane was also able to successfully apply to the Basingstoke and Deane's Council’s Cost of Living Assistance Fund, a scheme to support residents facing financial difficulties due to the rising cost of living. The advice Jane received enabled her to pay off part of the energy debt and pay back some of the loans received from helpful friends and family. Jane also received a Foodbank voucher and received details for local food pantries in the area.
