Research and Campaigns

Using anonymised data collected when clients seek our advice on issues such as debt, employment, housing and benefits, we amass a wealth of evidence on the problems people are facing. We understand the nature of these problems and the demographics of the people affected. We use both statistical data and client case studies to campaign for practical changes to improve people's lives, many of whom will never visit Citizens Advice. In this way, we help to change the policies, practices and regulations that seem unfair and which have a significant and detrimental impact on people’s lives.

Supporting Basingstoke communities

The huge volume of social data we capture allows us to drill down to a fine level of detail and enables us to capture people’s personal stories and lived-experience. This gives us an extraordinary insight into the problems and injustices affecting our local community.

  • We use our clients’ experience, stories and evidence to research and campaign for positive change in Basingstoke communities.
  • We share our research with our local MP, Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council and with the wider community through our Board of Trustees.
  • Where our campaigns are successful, we bring about improvements that benefit not only our clients, but people in the wider community too who have not used Citizens Advice services.
