Previous successes
In recent years we have campaigned successfully for changes that bring benefits to many people, not just those that seek our advice:
- A ban on the loyalty penalty in many markets which forced customers to shop around at the end of annual contracts.
- Introduction of the Energy Price Cap.
- Regulation of payday lending.
- A ban on forced prepayment meter installations – read more here about how the situation our client Henry found himself in helped us to influence national change.
Within the last year our campaign successes have accelerated:
- An increase in the Local Housing Allowance to bring it up to the 30th percentile of local private rents.
- Putting the Household Support Fund on a more sustainable footing.
- Regulation of Buy Now Pay Later finance companies.
- A reduction in the Universal Credit loan repayment rate.
- Improvements in sick pay entitlement.
- A reduced requirement for branded school uniforms.
- And most notably the Renters’ Rights bill has now passed. A campaign that took 6 years.
Whilst Citizens Advice is not solely responsible for these successes, no other campaigning organisation has comparable evidence.
